Animals or people?

‘We worry too much about protecting animals and not enough about protecting people’.

Regarding this sentence, I think that we can protect animals and people at the same time.

From my point of view, protecting animals isn’t against killing animals for food.

Prehistoric men did that to eat. We need a complete diet, so, why we could not eat meat?

Animals kill another animals to survive. Life is like this and this is a way to maintain the ecosystem.

But I absolutely disagree with killing animals to use their fur to make coats, handbags, belts, etc…

I agree to use animals in medical experiments. These animals usually are rats, which have been reproduced for it.

I think that using animals to improve medicine is an acceptable reason.

On the other hand, I disagree with hunting as a sport. It’s disrespect towards animals.

In conclusion, I think that a person who doesn’t respect animals doesn’t respect people either.

We live all in the same world, so we should try to respect everything around us, a plant, an animal, a person, whatever to get a better world.

Does your home follow the Feng Shui Philosophy?

Feng Shui, a Chinese philosophy to reorganise your home to allow positive energy to flow.

I don’t really believe in every point that we have to take into account according this philosophy.

But there are some points that I agree. For example, when I was looking for a flat, I wanted to make sure that there was a lot of light. So, I went to visit the flats when it was daylight.

I like the sun, it makes me feel alive. I love staying on the balcony reading or simply sunbathing. My mood can be affected according the weather; I’m sure that it would be difficult for me to live in a rainy city.

On the other hand, I agree with keeping everything tidy. I can’t put up with the mess.

Everything has to have its place and if there is something that I don’t really need or like, I try to get rid of it.

And finally, for me it’s very important too, the painting’s colour of the walls and the kind of furniture. I have tried to paint with soft colours and not to put a lot of piece of furniture to get a cosy atmosphere, being always a practical house.

In conclusion, I think that there isn’t a model house to follow. Each one should has the house where you feel good living inside, even if its decoration or atmosphere is against the feng shui philosophy

Men And Women. Why Are We Different?

Men and women have always been different in the way of thinking, working, or acting.

Normally, we aren’t worried about the same things.

Firstly, from my point of view, this different behaviour can be explained because of biological differences between men’s and women’s brains:

I have lived with three men, my father and my two brothers, for twenty-five years and, nowadays, I have been living with my partner for four years.

It has allowed me to appreciate that men have a similar behaviour, even if they have different age or nationality.

On average, they don’t do their share of housework, their bedroom is a mess and you always have to tell them to tidy their bedroom up and to hang their clothes up in the wardrobe.

Regarding what they watch on T.V, generally, they like football.

And finally, they hardly ever cry.

Secondly, the way we are brought up. Society and family set these differences.

Fortunately, it has been changing but, years ago, women didn’t have the same rights as men. Women weren’t allowed to vote or to study at the university.

But, nowadays, there are still some differences. For example, since we are a child, we can see a different behaviour towards us in relation to the girl’s and boy’s toys.

If you are a boy, never you’ll get an iron or if you are a girl, never you’ll get a remote-controlled car as a present for Christmas or for your birthday.

Why? Do women really enjoy doing the housework?

In conclusion, I think that all of us have to be more conscious about that and try to avoid these differences starting with the way of bring our children up.

Different Ways To Improve English

Hi Nuria,

How are you? What about your backache? I hope that you get better.

Firstly, thanks so much to encourage us to improve our English, writing in the blogger, watching films, reading books…

This is the second time that I write in my blogger because I have had some problems with my computer. Finally, I have bought a laptop and I have contract for internet (for me, it’s not easy to write in the blogger in the work or in a cibernet café). So, I’m going to write something else during these two last weeks.

But, during this time, I have been working with the workbook, watching the CNN channel and films in English.

Also, last year I looked for someone on Internet to speak in English and, fortunately I met Teresa, an American girl of Texas. She has been living in Barcelona for two years, more or less, and has been working as a teacher of English in different companies.

We try to meet when we have free time, normally, Friday afternoon. She teaches me English and I teach her Spanish. I think that this is a good experience too. It allows you to discover another people with a culture and experiences different than yours.

In February, I have changed my job. I work in a multinational Danish company where the official language is English; therefore, all is in English: documentation, mailings, trainings, meetings…

At the beginning, it was a bit hard for me since I had never worked in a multinational company before and I wasn’t used to working in English.

Nowadays, I understand better but listening conferences call and doing the corresponding minutes and phoning to request information is for me the hardest because of the different accents of each country.

I should have lived some years in an English-speaking country. From my point of view, I think that it’s the only way to have a perfect English. I regret it so much…

Maybe one day I request to my company to move to the branch in England. This is one of the advantages of working in a multinational company, you can move around the world…

I have workmates who speak four our five languages fluently, it’s incredible. I admire this knowledge. If there is something that I have envy is knowledge and intelligence.

A sentence that we have seen in class and I agree, ‘Knowledge is power’.

Regarding the party, I hope to be able to go. It could be very nice. If I go, I’m thinking about bringing a salad cake. I’ll see...

Politics And Politicians

Hi people, How are you? I hope you are fine.

For my first post, I want to write something about politics since we have just voted.

I realize that it’s more and more difficult for me to decide which politician I will vote. Any of them convince me. It’s a pity but I think that nowadays there isn’t any politician who fights for an ideal. There aren’t any ideals to fight. We live in a society that have all that we need: health service, food, education service, money to buy things that we want.

Our society is more and more in favour of consumerism because the market encourages us to consume constantly. And our socials values are changing too. Government or justice can do or change something that we don’t agree but we don’t protest for it, in fact, we don’t do anything, we only tend to observe. Maybe, few people do it, so they don’t have enough force for government takes them into account.

In France, people are always in the street, protesting for something, I think that they area a bit extremist but here, in Spain, we are the opposite. Hardly everything politicians do, is out of self-interest. They don’t think about the general interest of people.

I don’t understand why politicians don’t join together to resolve common interest problems like terrorism, violence, unemployment or immigration, independently of their politic ideology, right or left. I hope that, one day, this situation change. We will be aware that we aren’t any more in a dictatorship, we can rate and we can go in the street to express our disagreement with something and politicians listen to us and react about it.
